In the end, the decision was short-sighted. Extremely short-sighted.
During the course of the past week, Xbox Game Studios unveiled Project Helix – a hybrid gaming device with the intent to bridge the gap between console and computer games by supporting both development paradigms. And it was ultimately inevitable that to support one would be to support both; as such, and for lack of choice on this side of the development process, Zero Break Games will immediately reinstate Xbox development in order to support both aspects of the Microsoft ecosystem whether games are licensed through Steam, the Epic Game Store, the Microsoft Store, Game Pass or any future deployment target.
Tail Force, for which development is moving along with its Steam registrations now in progress, will be the first Zero Break Games project to take advantage of this exciting new paradigm in game development. As the first full-length project in the Zero Break catalogue, Tail Force – which has evolved from simple beginnings as an awareness-focused roleplay project to a platform action game centered around progression-based ability acquisitions – is viewed as the perfect choice of the entire list of Zero Break projects to hold the honor of being developed with the computer systems prioritization model of development that Project Helix offers to both indie developers and industry professionals.
In addition to restarting Xbox development for the support of Project Helix, plans are also being reinstated to make Tail Force a cross-generation release within the Xbox pantheon by also including Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and Windows 11 as planned development targets. More information on these aspects of development will be revealed at a later date.
