As some of you are aware, Microsoft is ending support for Windows 10 on or around October 15. After that date, no further feature developments nor complementary security updates will be rolled out for the operating system, thereby impacting the safety and security of both Zero Break Games projects and the computer system as a whole. In light of this change, all future Zero Break Games projects will exclusively ship for Windows 11 users at the most recent support level and will not support installation or execution on Windows 10 at all as it is impossible to guarantee that the extended support provision – while available as an option – will be properly activated for all customers and users of Zero Break Games projects.
In addition to this required upgrade to Windows 11, Zero Break Games is also mandating that these upgrades be performed exclusively on officially supported configurations and will not install or execute if the following features are not present in accordance with Microsoft security policies:
- Trusted Platform security module compliant with standard level 2.0 or later
- Secure Boot protection supported and active within the UEFI BIOS or equivalent
- An officially supported combination of central processor and graphics rendering APUs
- System-level security protection and encryption using Microsoft BitLocker
This is not a decision that is being made lightly. However, the safety, security and privacy protections that Zero Break Games is required by law to uphold are impossible to guarantee on outdated Windows installations, even in cases where extended support options are available; therefore, it is imperative to make this difficult decision for the protection of all customers and users of Zero Break Games projects. These changes are non-negotiable and are being implemented to ensure that the safety and security levels which are required by law are upheld in a trusted and supported computing environment pursuant to the latest Microsoft security standards.
