As some of you are aware, recent project and resource cuts at Xbox Game Studios have resulted in the mass withdrawal of development support both inside and out, negatively impacting and in some cases shutting down entire game projects. Zero Break Games has been watching the fallout from the situation over the past few days as a part of its commitments to the video game industry as a whole, and as a result of the situation (as well as several technical requirement changes with both current and past projects) has made the difficult decision to pull out of ID@Xbox in the near future and will immediately cancel all related work thereof. Mac, Linux, PlayStation and PC development plans are not affected and will continue as-is; this is simply a decision to end the longtime partnership with Xbox Game Studios and all related support for the Microsoft development ecosystem as a whole by consequence, not including that which is enabled by the remaining means of game delivery such as the Epic Games Store, Steam, GameJolt and itch. In other words, Windows development will continue unimpeded outside of the targeting which is being dropped from Xbox services and development provisions.
This is not a decision that is being made lightly. However, given the matter and nature of the ongoing situation, it is the position of Zero Break Games to focus its resources on publishing means that are not affected by any extent of uncertainty or negative impacts, and the current state of affairs with Xbox Game Studios is both unable and insufficient to support that principle at the present time.
On a lighter note, prior projects that were originally planned for Xbox deployment are in the process of being reevaluated and revisited both by myself and other parties with which Zero Break Games has had active or past relations with further updates on their status to come in the near future and will be reworked and retested for adequacy and feasibility respective to the remaining means of distribution. However, as these efforts are still in their infancy, it is not possible to comment on any rumors, speculation or overall status thereof at this time – including that of the internal decisions that have culminated in this publishing support withdrawal.
